A new year, and new additions for the school buses at Willow River.
The fleet of seven now has stop arm extensions from BusGates. The equipment attaches to the stop arm, extending it about five feet, and light up, making it easier to see.
Adapting Stop-Arm Extensions to Meet State Requirements
Transportation Supervisor Nate Berg is passionate about making sure people obey the stop arm law. “We see about 10 violations a year,” he told us.
So when he saw the products from BusGates, he wanted to bring them to Willow River. But he discovered their design covered the reflective part of the stop sign, which is not legal in Minnesota.
Dan Thompson is the co-founder of BusGates. After a call from the Minnesota State Patrol, he was able to figure out a way to make the products compatible with Minnesota law, and keep the whole sign reflective.
Community Support Makes Safety Possible
The Sturgeon Lake Lions supported this project with a donation of $5700.
